Dizziness Team Introduction

The causes of dizziness are complex. Diagnoses like "benign paroxysmal positional vertigo" or "vestibular imbalance" are sometimes deemed inadequate, offering limited help in treating and preventing episodes. Common outpatient dizziness disorders include:

  • Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo
  • Vestibular neuritis
  • Vestibular migraine
  • Functional dizziness
  • Vascular vertigo
  • Vestibular paroxysmia
  • Brain tumors (acoustic neuroma or tumors of the cerebellum or brainstem)
  • Meniere's disease

Dizziness is a common and troublesome condition, with an annual incidence of about 5-10%. Over 40% of individuals over 40 years old have experienced dizziness, with 25% of those over 60 years old having fallen due to dizziness. The causes of dizziness are quite complex and may stem from inner ear diseases, central nervous system disorders, or other systemic conditions.Diagnosing and managing dizziness often requires the collaboration of multiple specialties to achieve optimal treatment outcomes. Our team consists of experts from neurology, otolaryngology, rehabilitation medicine, psychiatry, and neurosurgery, working together with cutting-edge diagnostic equipment and a variety of treatment options to help patients overcome the challenges of dizziness.

How is dizziness treated? The prognosis and treatment methods for dizziness vary greatly depending on the underlying causes. Therefore, the most crucial factor is the "correct diagnosis".Some types of dizziness can be treated with short-term medication, while others may require long-term medication, and some may not require medication at all. Certain dizziness disorders may necessitate a combination of methods for treatment. Although there are various treatment options available, many dizziness disorders still cannot be completely cured. Here are several commonly used treatment methods:

  • Epley maneuver (particle repositioning treatment)
  • Short-term medication therapy
  • Long-term medication for prevention
  • Intratympanic medication therapy
  • Surgical intervention
  • Avoidance of triggering factors
  • Vestibular rehabilitation therapy
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy
