Message from the Vice Superintendent

Taipei Neuroscience Institute (TNI) has been founded in April 2018. TNI integrates the clinical expert doctors from the three affiliated hospitals of Taipei Medical University (TMU). The vision is to establish a high-quality medical center focusing on neurological research, education and clinical practice, becoming the leader in the diagnosis and management for neurological diseases and connecting with the world. As the Vice-President of teaching in TNI, my responsibilities are to unify the teaching resources of the university and hospitals, to promote special training, to assist interdisciplinary education and internationalize teaching. In recent years, there are many exciting breakthroughs in neuroscience, bringing challenges on their application in clinical care.

We are dedicated to improve learning environment, to introduce novel diagnostic tools and surgical skill simulations, and to cultivate talents. In addition, we encourage collaboration between university professors and clinical staffs in basic and clinical neuroscience research, promote scientific innovation and knowledge exchange, and transform theoretical knowledge into practical skills. We hope to cultivate neuromedical experts with professional knowledge, humanistic care and innovative spirit. We also hope to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with renowned neurological institutions, introduce advanced international experience, and provide patients with high quality medical services. Let us work together to promote the vigorous development of neurological education and bring excellent medical care for patients with neurological diseases!

Message from the Vice Superintendent

Under the vision of former President Lin Chien-Huang of Taipei Medical University, and building upon the high-quality neuromedicine system established by former President Chiu Wen-Ta, the Taipei Neuromedicine Center was officially founded in 2018. Led by Professor Tu Yung-Kwang, former President of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, this neuromedicine center, focused on integration and innovation, has combined the university's fundamental medical research to become the largest neuromedicine center in Taiwan. I am honored to have had the opportunity to participate from the initial planning stages through to its formal establishment and its growth to the scale it has reached today. The Taipei Neuromedicine Center has brought together expert physicians across neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, rehabilitation, and psychiatry, emphasizing clinical innovation and advancement. It was the first in the Asia-Pacific region to introduce the "Rosa One Robotic Arm for Brain and Spine Surgery," which has enhanced the precision and safety of complex brain and spine surgeries and established the center as the "Asia-Pacific Brain and Spine Robotic Surgery Training Center." Additionally, the center boasts advanced MRI-guided focused ultrasound technology to treat challenging conditions such as primary and Parkinsonian tremors, and the "Dual-Arm Hybrid Operating Room" for more seamless cerebrovascular surgeries.

Under the leadership of Professor Pan Hung-Chi, the "Father of Gamma Knife," the high-end Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery has made the Taipei Neuromedicine Center a pioneer in innovative neurological treatments in Taiwan. Through a synergy between clinical applications and Taipei Medical University's foundational research in neuromedicine, the center's foundational research in brain tumors, cerebrovascular diseases, dementia, Parkinson's disease, and spinal degeneration is mutually supportive, aiming to make meaningful contributions to translational medicine and human health. Under the future guidance of President Wu Max and newly appointed Director Chiang Yung-Hsiao, I am committed to dedicating my utmost effort, alongside all colleagues at the Taipei Neuromedicine Center, to continuously innovate and improve in both clinical and research fields. Together, we strive to advance health for our citizens and make ongoing contributions to the global neuromedicine field. Let us encourage each other in this mission!
